Women’s Health Issues
What Are Women’s Health Issues?
Women’s health issues can include anything from pelvic pain, incontinence, menstrual problems, and endometriosis, to conditions related to pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause. Often, there are complex interactions between muscles, connective tissue, hormones, and stress, making it important to consider the body as a whole.
Assessment
We begin with a thorough discussion of symptoms, medical history, and any previous examinations.
This is followed by a physical assessment of the pelvis, pelvic floor, and surrounding muscles, as well as an evaluation of any scar tissue. For a more detailed assessment of the pelvic floor, an internal examination (per vaginam or per rectum) may sometimes be considered, but this is only done with the patient’s consent and if they feel safe.
Treatment
Treatment is individually tailored and may include:
-
Mobilization and manual therapy techniques
-
Physiotherapeutic massage and connective tissue therapy
-
Pelvic floor treatment both externally and internally
-
Visceral (organ-related) treatment if needed
-
Guidance in targeted exercises and home training
