Tension headache
What is a tension headache?
Tension headaches are the most common type of headache and affect many people at some point in their lives. They are often caused by stress, muscle tension, or prolonged mental or physical strain. The pain can range from mild to moderate and can last from a few hours to several days.
Symptoms
Typical symptoms include a feeling of pressure or tightness around the head, often described as a “band” across the forehead or back of the head. Many people also experience tenderness in the neck, shoulders, and scalp. The discomfort can be exacerbated by stress, physical exertion, or prolonged sitting in front of a screen.
Cause
The causes of tension headaches are often complex and can include both psychological factors (such as stress or worry), physical factors (such as muscle tension or poor posture) and lifestyle habits (such as little sleep or high caffeine intake).

Treatment
Physical therapy treatment can be effective for this condition. Interventions may include relaxation techniques, massage and soft tissue therapy to reduce muscle tension, as well as specific exercises for the neck and shoulders. In addition, stress management, ergonomic adjustments and lifestyle changes can help prevent new episodes.
